Applications Open: The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mental Health Optimization Virtual Intervention Network (MOVIN): Randomized Controlled Trial

Recruitment is now open for the study: The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mental Health Optimization Virtual Intervention Network (MOVIN): Randomized Controlled Trial, which is being conducted at Women’s College Hospital in collaboration with Sinai Health System, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, and the Ottawa Hospital.

About the study:

The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mental health Optimization Virtual Intervention Network (MOVIN) is a scalable perinatal mental health platform that builds on the evidence-based collaborative care model.

In this randomized trial, MOVIN's online platform allows participants in the MOVIN group to connect with a care coordinator to co-develop personalized treatment recommendations, in collaboration with their primary care clinician and a perinatal psychiatrist when needed. Progress is tracked so that care plans can be modified as needed. Participants in the control group would also have access to the platform educational and resource materials, just not the care coordinator, navigation, and monitoring.

In the pilot RCT, MOVIN participants had fewer clinical symptoms and were more likely to recover than a usual care group at 6-month follow up. They have received CIHR funding (PIs: Dr. Simone Vigod and Dr. Noah Ivers) for a large-scale RCT across Ontario to evaluate the efficacy of this intervention. We have attached a FAQ page with commonly asked questions about the study.
