NMCN 2025-26 Annual Report Highlights: Advancing Maternal-Child Care Across Northern Ontario

Over the past year, the NMCN has continued to strengthen collaboration, advance equity, and improve outcomes for maternal-child populations across Northern Ontario.
Key achievements include the launch of the L.E.A.R.N. education framework with the Women and Children’s Health Network, alongside new maternal-newborn and pediatric nursing competencies and a structured Mentorship Package to support workforce development.
To enhance clinical readiness and consistency in care, NMCN introduced the Birthing Bundle and expanded its Committees and Communities of Practice, connecting providers across the continuum. In response to emerging needs, RSV and measles toolkits were also developed to support timely, evidence-informed care.
System-level progress includes the development of pediatric acute care metrics in partnership with Ontario Health, and the creation of a northern resource inventory to improve care coordination, repatriation, and access to services closer to home.
Together, these achievements reflect the power of partnership and a shared commitment to delivering equitable, high-quality care for every family in Northern Ontario.
