Nursing Programs for Northern Ontario Hospitals

The Michener Institute of Education at UHN, in partnership with Ontario’s Ministry of Health, is offering postgraduate nursing education designed specifically for hospitals and healthcare organizations in Northern Ontario. These programs strengthen local acute and critical care capacity through practical, job-ready training aligned with current standards of care.

Programs included:

  • Acute Care Nursing Certificate Program: For practicing nurses who need advanced assessment, monitoring, and intervention skills to support acutely ill patients across inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Critical Care Nursing Program: For practicing nurses who require the knowledge and competencies to care for critically ill patients in high-acuity environments.

Programs are coordinated with participating Northern Ontario hospitals. Cohorts and clinical experiences are tailored to local needs.

Delivery structure:

  • Hybrid learning combining online theory with supervised, hospital-based clinical application.
  • Flexible pacing to accommodate shift work and operational constraints.
  • Applied assessment focused on clinical decision-making, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration.

How to participate:

Hospital leaders (e.g., Nursing/Professional Practice, Education, Clinical Managers) can connect with the Michener Institute to:

  • Discuss workforce goals and cohort planning
  • Align timelines and clinical support
  • Confirm sponsored learners and intake details
